life as a work of art: in bloom - session 2 with Gypsea Fluid Art
Art found Jodie at a crossroads, & so did I.
Jodie Vicary is gracious, charming, highly sensitive (in the spiritual sense of the word), funny & down to earth. She’s wonderfully talented & makes art for happiness, connection & for a part-time living. We met just a couple of weeks after my move interstate, & it was an instant connection. So similar at such a deep level: we just clicked right away.
I met Jodie at the beautiful gallery where she recently had her first exhibition & we got creative. Enjoy!
Shooting with her was a breath of fresh air. Her interview question answers are punchy & get straight to the point.

INTERVIEW
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I didn't have the desire to be something that everyone wanted me to be. I was a dreamer.. I still am. I was thankful my parents let me just be me. I just want to be able to work and explore.
3 words to describe your now-season?
Beach, fresh, adventure.
What is it that inspires your creations?
Water. Waves crashing in on itself, forming white wash.
The way the water hugs the rocks. A river stream. It was a hard transition to get the blue’s out of my head. Now i’m on to pastels….think unicorn, bubble gum, romance etc. Though blues always creep in.
5 words to describe YOU?
Creative, adventurous, amiable, sensitive, empathic.
What most people wouldn’t know about you?
I can’t go to bed with dirty feet… Even when camping I have to wipe them clean.
What lights you up?
This may sound cheesy, but my partner, my heart. He lights me up.
Do you manage the day-job hustle? How do you find that balance?
Honestly… I haven’t found the balance yet! It’s only been 3 years since being in full-time work. It’s hard to find drive and motivation after being in an ‘artificial’ environment for 9 hours every day. I guess I manage.
What are you being called towards in the future?
I would loooove to move back to Cairns, open up an industrial style Gallery lounge cafe. A place where you can chill out, A place for other artists to exhibit their work. Just a rad little hang out really.
Anything you are working on within yourself right now?
Just to be a healthier, happier me.
What is most coming forward / blooming within you currently?
My art!!! It’s a release. I love experimenting, I love failing, I love creating, I love expressing to the world… me!
A little piece of advice for anyone following the the non-linear whispers of their heart in this linear world?
Go for it!! Even if you’re afraid, do it anyway. It’s worth the anxiety.
