the heart always knows, in bloom session 11 with Kate Schubert: mothers day special.
I am so honoured to have Kate on the blog today, for a beautiful mamas day special. Her journey to motherhood, although always written in the stars, was not a smooth one. So I feel it’s important to honour ALL women, whether mother’s or not. Some of us conceive easier than others, but I am such a big believer that it doesn’t mean it’s not meant for all women (& those wanting children) who have the seed of nurturing & mothering planted deep in their hearts. As a nanny for her beautiful miracle of a son, Hunter, I have witnessed Kate’s incredibly conscious, intuitive, playful way with her son. I have seen how the journey to motherhood was a big channel for healing & becoming the powerful healer she is to others.
Kate Schubert is a psychotherapist, meditation and yoga teacher, reiki practitioner & teacher based out of Bellingen NSW, after recently making the shift from Sydney with her beautiful family (now consisting of husband, son, chickens, goats, dogs, cats, birds & soon alpacas). She has truly dreamed up this life that she consciously creates again & again every single day, living off grid to stay in touch with her deeper rhythms. Her work has moved & healed many, with a gentle approach to trauma & healing, with roots in ancient medicine. She holds space so potently & powerfully for healing through an incredible ‘present moment’ approach.
The transition from Sydney to the powerful hills of Bellingen meant a physical stepping away from her Sydney-based yoga & healing business ‘connect the dots.’ Bellingen has called upon Kate to completely step into her calling to pursue her own private healing practice & I have caught her in the most exciting transition. I have been lucky to support & work alongside Kate, through creating content & moving imagery for her two businesses & also through nannying for her magical 1.5 year old son part-time (children just seem to follow me everywhere I go!) I have been incredibly lucky to experience Kate fully in the power of her work, through seeing her facilitate a womens retreat. I cannot wait to watch her shine fully as the medicine woman that she is.

Without further ado, here she is. This shoot was incredible to create & witness unfold. & it was even nicer having this conversation over one of her yummy raw treats & rooibos tea.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
It’s a funny one for me. I don’t think my way of feeling was typical for someone my age. It’s now become my main skill set, but back then it was just a knowing. I wanted to be a therapist or a vet. I was too sensitive to put animals down and therapy just seemed a better fit, however I had living to do before I could sit down with someone else and help them through major life instances
3 words to describe your now-season?
Transition, fluidity, discernment!
What is it that inspires your creations / practice / or just inspires you generally?
I feel like the world is much easier when we are emotionally attuned and aligned. I know it for myself and this allows me to live life in a healthy way to create and choose practices of nourishment. I’m also inspired by those that live with their full heart and rational mind, the integration of a soft and strong place.
5 words to describe YOU?
deep, cheeky, intuitive, creative, level headed (mostly!)
What most people wouldn’t really know about you?
I love to dance, be silly and sing.
What lights you up?
My son, he is just a ball of fun and laughter. He also likes to teach me about the present moment. My husband when he cooks and allows himself to learn new things. It gives me so much joy watching him do so. I also am lit up by anything creative and spiritual – especially deep conversations with my lovely friends and family.
Do you manage a day-job-hustle / multiple callings? How do you find that balance?
Yes I do. I’m a mum and wife, I’m a wellness centre owner, psychotherapist, yoga teacher and energy healer. Phew – tiring, just writing it all out. I love the creativeness, however I do feel I am still trying to find the balance. It’s a work in progress and I can feel that I am nearly there.
Where are you being called towards in future?
I can feel a strong calling to energy healing and therapy up here on the mid-north coast. I have been working down in Sydney still and the call is to transition more up here. I am also feeling a call to more group work in a therapy/retreat setting.
Anything you are working on within yourself right now?
Yes, always… I am watching my resistance to being a medicine woman. It feels scary to even name that and yet I know it is where I am heading. The energy healings have a power beyond me and all I need to do is get out of the way. Slowly, slowly it is happening. Letting go….
What is most coming forward / blooming within you currently?
My new creation which is my business under Kate Schubert. My identity has been tied in to Connect the Dots (wellness centre in Sydney) for such a long time so there is a letting go of needing to be ‘Kate from Connect the dots.’ It started as a blog, then a service based provider, then a wellness centre. The Kate Schubert website really is about me owning this medicine woman part of myself. I can feel the power in it just by writing this. Watch this space!
A little piece of advice for anyone following the non-linear whispers of their heart in this linear world?
The heart always, always knows. Move to the people that also know this and allow them to co-create your sense of self. Some people will never understand and this is ok: they aren’t bad people for it and they don’t mean to overstep boundaries. It just allows us to see a lot clearer and if we take responsibility for our own boundaries. From this space we really start to hold a compassionate state for others from a deeper realm.
