choose yourself always: in bloom session 12 with Georgia Pettit
I met Georgia as I was shooting flat lays for one of my lovely clients in Bellingen, she was passing through the shop looking for a present for her new niece with her partner. We struck up a conversation & hit it off instantly. A passionate designer, photographer & artist (among many other things), we had so much in common straight away. But this was just the start of the beautiful depth that has become our friendship. Intuitive & gentle in nature, Georgia at first comes off as shy but I have discovered such depth, such inner beauty, & growth. I am happy that she is passing through this beautiful place at the same time as us. I will hold onto her dearly.
The day of this shoot was just so beautiful. We took a drive & she put on her groovy old school tunes. This is the moment I knew she was my kind of girl. She told me of her life, of where she’s from, of the struggles the last year has brought to her & her family. She spoke to me with love in her eyes of her dad & his poetry & big giving heart. She told me how much she has missed him since he suddenly passed last year. She spoke of wanting children, & creating life on her terms as I do too. I adore this girl & I know you will too. She is not only beautiful on the inside, but this beauty shines on through.
She is currently getting her new online business off the ground: a minimalistic, eco-driven clothing & accessories shop: LA GIGI. Check it out & go support her here.
‘Hey, I’m Georgia! I grew up in a beautiful little coastal town called Nelson Bay. I only recently made a move to Coffs Harbour where I met the lovely Jessi! I’m a relaxed, caring, creative soul always searching for a new adventure!! Always happy by the ocean.’
1) What did you want to be when you grew up?
A pro surfer. I was 5 when my Dad pushed me onto my first wave and I am still surfing now. All though my dream of being a pro has changed I still lovvve surfing and I’m in the water whenever I can.
2) 3 words to describe your now-season?
Busy, Exciting, Creative.
3) What is it that inspires your creations / practice / or just inspires you generally?
Kindness, sunshine, adventure, music, my parents and their incredibly positive outlook on life, they both have inspired me and taught me so much. I really think just life in general is incredibly inspiring!
4) 5 words to describe YOU?
Hmm I would say shy (when I first meet someone), happy, caring, positive, creative.
5) What most people wouldn’t really know about you?
That I draw portraits and like to write poems. Also inspired from my Dads creative mind. 10 months ago I very unexpectedly lost my Dad. He passed in his sleep. Since his passing I came across hundreds of his poems/lyrics he’d written throughout his life and I was quite blown away. So I wrote a short poem for his funeral and I have been putting my thoughts to paper ever since. Maybe someday I will build up courage to start sharing with others and perhaps share some of his...
6) What lights you up?
Music, the ocean, kindness, art, my lovely partner, family. Oh and coffee hehe.
7) Do you manage a day-job-hustle / multiple callings? How do you find that balance?
I do, I have recently finished studying Interior Design, I am working 4-5 days a week, working on my new online business and also trying to take my passion photography and art further. I’m not sure I have found a balance just yet but I am happy with the imbalance.
8) Where are you being called towards in future?
More adventure, creativity, starting my own little family and I also feel that in the coming years I will at some point live overseas, particularly the US… I just have this yearning to go there and also dream about it often.
9) Anything you are working on within yourself right now?
I really have to learn to stop doubting myself all the time. I think at this point of my life I am just trying to do things I enjoy, make the most of my time on this earth. I have always been so appreciative of life but losing my Dad has really hit me like a punch in the gut and made me realise how important it is to do what you love and what makes you happy. Life can be taken away so suddenly and so quickly.
I know people say it all the time but life really is very short and happiness is so important! People need to know that it’s okay to be selfish sometimes and put yourself first!
10) What is most coming forward / blooming within you currently?
11) A little piece of advice for anyone following the non-linear whispers of their heart in this linear world?
Follow your calling, do what you love! Enjoy every moment created for you.
